I bought this to replace my Oreck cordless vac which died and did NOT have an option to replace the battery. That's 0 down the drain after two years.

This Eureka stick vacuum is all it is advertised to be, and more. It does a very good job on low cut carpets (not advised for shags or high pile), and is excellent on solid floors. It has a strong battery and with a backup charging in the holder, so you have plenty of cleaning time available. My Swivel Sweeper does not compare in any comparison tests I've put them through. I wish I had heard about the Eureka before I paid for the cheap Swivel Sweeper.

It was so impressed with this lightweight item that I bought a second one for the basement. It is sturdy and seems quite well made. Compare this to the new Oreck @ 0, and you'll learn the Eureka wins every way possible.

If you're looking for a cordless stick vac, stop looking because this is the one that does what you're looking for. If not, then send it back because you may have gotten one that failed inspection.

I'm very picky and hard to please (ask my wife), but this product has brought me only smiles. I enjoy using it, which says it all.

One month update:
This beauty has functioned perfectly, holds a charge like no other cordless I've ever used, and picks up things I never thought it could handle. I LOVE this vacuum. And, it's very solid. I like that the handle comes off with the push of a button, and you can then use it as a Dust Buster on the couch, etc.
I really LOVE the wall mount bracket, which charges two batteries at once while holding the vacuum with a very cleverly designed recessed groove on the back of the vacuum. The extra battery is great for cleaning the entire basement, first or second floor of my house.

Just what I wanted - Marge - Florida
My 9-year-old Eureka Boss cordless vacuum finally died about the same time I got a new rescue cat. The old vac was perfect for my needs, and I wanted exactly the same thing to replace it. This Eureka 96B is a replica, except it has a plastic inset over the brushes so you can see if you've got those activated. Picks up cat hair just like the old one. Light-weight, powerful enough for my needs, easy to clean, easy to store - just what I wanted.

I had to give away my big upright vacuum cleaner because it is impossible to use from a wheelchair -- too heavy, cumbersome to drag around, and the cord wraps around the wheels. With the Eureka, I can clean the area around me, detach the handle, lay both halves across my lap, and roll on to the next area, where I snap it back together and carry on.

I find it effective on carpet, even if it doesn't suck the pile upright in neat cornrows, and I have five cats. In the kitchen, where I have lino, it picks up all the dirt but tends to push cat hair around. I don't know whether the Eureka is to blame, as the lino seems to build up a static charge from the urethane wheels of my wheelchair. The two batteries provide more than enough power to handle my stop-and-start usage in a house over approximately a thousand square feet, and that's using the stronger (carpet) setting all the time.

Wear an apron if you're in a wheelchair. Cat hair and dust accumulates on the outside of the vacuum, particularly in a little part behind the brush, and this stuff will get all over you. Apart from that I have no beef with this appliance, and am happy to have reclaimed the ability to do my own housekeeping.
